It can be made shorter or longer easily enough—omit motifs if you desire, or work extra repeats of ones you are particularly fond of. It was designed for 4 colors, but there’s no reason you couldn’t do more! Leftover sock yarn or mini skeins could definitely work. I had 4 100 yard skeins and leftovers from each of them.
